While I was staying in South Carolina Melissa and I went over to the Learning Center to take some photos for Thornwell. Some of the kids were just a ham and loved getting their picture taken and some were shy. They were all just to cute. They were such good sports just hanging out learning.
The Learning Center is open all year round for the students. They really focus on improving their reading and math skills during the summer so that they will be ready for the school year.
“When you’re a child coming to Thornwell because you’ve been a victim of abuse or neglect, being a good student is probably not at the top of the priority list. And even if it is, the chances that you’ve been encouraged or supported academically are slim. So that’s why the Learning Center is here—to offer Thornwell kids the encouragement and support they need to be successful.” says Norman Dover, director of Thornwell’s Academic Program.
